So we had a last small snowfall a few weeks ago. Just a fraction of an inch overnight. It seems strange that it wasn’t so long ago when we’re now having temperatures in the low 80 degree range, but it wasn’t that long ago.

The small amount of snow covered the lawn, but wasn’t enough to overwhelm the “shadow” of the dogwood tree in our yard. Shot this with the 50 (definitely my favorite lens on 35mm) but could really have done with something closer to 35 or 40mm.

There’ll be nobody swimming here for a little while; however, ice skating is a distinct possibility. My neighbor’s swimming pool, frozen solid with a patina of snow on the surface during one of the snow events we were, um…blessed with this January.

This is one of my favorite photos from the winter so far. I took an almost identical one using the digital camera, but film seems to have done the scene more justice.

Weather has been weird of late. Snow, more snow, freezing rain and a bit more snow while up north in Vancouver, the Winter Olympics are being rained on. They’re welcome to come get some snow from here.

The upside to all this frosty weather is that it makes for some very pretty imagery, like this result of an overnight freezing rain shower. It coated our deck, cars and grill in a thin layer of ice. Slick, but pretty.

Here’s a new one, shot on film, from the Great Storm of ‘09. Kelli’s car, going nowhere in a hurry with the grille clad in icicles.
