A lone car passes by in the foggy early hours, leaving a trail of light which passes behind the trees. In the middle distance, lights from the local school’s grounds pierce through the mist.

Coming into that annual transition period, where some trees are blooming, some are budding and some are still getting used to the idea that it’s time to wake up. Then there are the ones which never went to sleep.

Sunsets. Have they been done to death? Sure they have. Are they a photographic cliche? One of the worst, right up there with cats. Will I resist the urge to grab the nearest camera and tripod every time I see an especially beautiful example of one? Not a chance!

Photography is all about light, very literally. Sunsets are also about light, and also contrasts. Orange/red contrasting with blue/purple. Dark silhouettes against the twilit sky. Day becoming night.

Yes, it’s a cliche. No, I don’t care.

I don’t know what’s in there, but I’m hearing a lot of screaming so it can’t be good.

Part of the atmosphere to be found at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg during the October “Howl-O-Scream” evenings, along with haunted houses and scare zones populated by spooky creatures.
