Sometimes the photographs you like the most are the unplanned ones.

Here, I was shooting a set of portraits of Kelli wearing blue jeans and a Union Jack t-shirt. White doors as a backdrop, strobe into a shoot-through umbrella, some digital, some on film. Brody and Chester decided they wanted in on the action and since everything was in the same place relative to the lighting, I went ahead and made this photograph.

I suppose this is what they call a “Kodak moment”. I’ve been practicing manual focus with the F-1, just trying to stop second guessing myself by focusing on things until I feel confident that I’m getting it right on the first try. Which put me in the right place at the right time to grab this shot of Kelli and Brody doing a doggie high-five!

Kelli has her own blog talking about her journey since having weightloss surgery. On occasion, I get “commissioned” to take some photos for the blog.

This gives me a willing vict…er, volunteer model, for my photographic efforts, and also allows Kelli to see how good she really looks. I call that a win-win.

Still rather gear-starved at this point, so the background is a plain white wall and lighting comes from a single speedlight bounced into the corner opposite (also white walls).
